Rebecca and I made it here to Menorah Hospital in Overland Park, KS to deliver our baby boy, Brody. She is lying in the bed filling out form after form, and answering all the same questions we had to answer just a few days ago. But this time, we won’t be sent home. Today, she is being induced and the little Broad-meister will join us sometime today. Exciting times. Will update this blog posting periodically today, and pictures will, of course, be forthcoming.
An exciting day! Wish us well.
[7:30am Update]
Rebecca was having some mild contractions when we got here. They have the IV drip in (since about 6 am) and have a slow patossum drip going. Doctor will allegedly be here within the next 30 minutes to break her water. No pain so far! After they break her water, they will give her an epidural and the fun will really begin. So far, kind of a slow morning. Coffee, tv, and my laptop. Yeah!
[8:25 am Update]
Nothing really new to report. Contractions getting a bit stronger and a bit more frequent. We’re still waiting on her doctor (who is never on time) to come break her water. Ho hum, ho hum…
[9:10 am Update]
No change in dilation. Doctor is delayed, but they are going to go ahead and give Rebecca her epidural. She is happy, though the contractions haven’t been horrible. More when more to report…
[9:30 am Update]
Water broke… here comes the epidural. Doc showed up so they broke the water first. Doc said signs are that Brody will come pretty quick!
[10:00 am Update]
The epidural is done, Rebecca is feeling pretty happy. We’re just waiting now.
So in the same spirit as the blogging with Braelyn’s birth, I researched this day in history to see the notable events, births and deaths. Not as much on this, the 18th day of September. But some notables, or at least recognizables, include:
In 1959, Ryne Sandberg was born. Yeah, he played baseball for the Cubbies and growing up was one of my favorite players. He was one of the good guys.
In 1971, Lance Armstrong was born. This is a good sign… couple of really good athletes share this day.
In 1939, Fred Willard, the comedian, was born. Maybe Brody will have a good sense of humor.
In 1933, Robert Blake was born. Ugh, I guess it can’t all be good!
Dying on this day in history was Jimi Hendrix in 1970 (Spencer loves that one). No other real notables, at least to me.
Events on this day include:
1998 – ICANN formed. Only relevant to me and those in the same industry I am in, really.
1977 – Voyager I took first photo of Earth and the moon together.
1947 – US Air Force became an independent service.
1851 – New York Times (formerly New York Daily Times) first published. Again, not all can be good on a day.
Anyway, there are some notables. As I said, not a whole lot of them.
More later… hopefully the lil’ man will come soon!
[11:15am Update]
Just got checked out… she’s dilated to a “good 7″ now. We’re all ready. I’m getting bored.
[12:53pm Update]
Brody Carlen Elledge was born at 12:09 pm today. He is 20″ long, weighs 8.2 lbs (1.2 more than Braelyn did), and has a 13.5″ head circumference. Very healthy, mom doing well, I’m very excited. Good coloring, no birthmarks… more hair than Braelyn did but not a bunch.
Pictures will be uploading real soon at http://www.brodyelledge.com/gallery/
